the out-of-stock blues

Today I'll be looking for a replacement for this. I planned for a pair of these to flank the headboard in my clients' attic guest room. So great, right?

But I'm bumming. It would have been helpful if West Elm had notified me when I ordered them way back on July 18 that they would be unavailable, not just backordered til September 10—which would not have been such a huge deal. In fact, I just waited patiently. They were just a few weeks away. And now, nope. Not getting here til Thanksgiving. Yikes. On behalf of my client, I refuse to wait! I think we can find something else.

Not happy! But trying to look on the bright side. Sometimes when you can't get what you want, you take your time and something even better comes along. I'm hoping this is the case! I'm sure we're in for that kind of weekend. Rain and wind is surely not what we want, but let's make the best of it, agreed?

That is such a bummer! Just had this happen with bedside chests for a client. They were the perfect size and there is nothing out there even close. Still looking :(

Good luck Casey & have a great weekend!

Have you seen the one at RH? http://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod1676479

It's a little different but similar in feel.

This happened to me with an order not too long ago - I never got notified that the item was backordered until I called and asked where the delivery was. But I'm looking forward to see what alternative you come up with for this lighting.

I bought some from Pottery Barn that are similar but with a glass shade...paired with Edison bulbs they look awesome in my guest room. I actually considered those from West Elm but thought they wouldn't give off enough light for reading in bed. I have received lots of compliments on them so far (posted pics of my new condo on facebook, I don't have a blog). Also, West Elm has been HORRIBLE this year with the backorders. ugh.

D'oh! Sounds familiar. I waited and waited to pull the trigger on a circular mirror from West Elm that looked like driftwood... perfect for over the bed in my guest room. TOO LATE! Not just out of stock. GONE :( Hate it when that happens...perhaps I may have to MAKE one myself!! LOVE your blog, keep up the good work!

Don't you hate when that happens. Love the look, but I bet you'll find something even better!!

What a disappointment but I have no doubt that you'll find something equally perfect for your client.

That happend to me with a lamp I wanted and then I ended up finding the exact one at Goodwill for 12 bucks!
Oh, I just added your nailhead stair runner to my favorite DIY's on Pinterest ;)

I've found that when something I fall in love with isn't available, it just means that something even better is right around the corner. If you can afford to wait, that is!

The same thing happened to me. Turns out no one ever received one of these sconces because they weren't up to West Elm's quality standards.
