garden update: in bloom

I'm just loving when things come into bloom. My sweet pea, which I had no idea could be a perennial til I stumbled across some incredible variety, just popped with this lovely purple flower.

I love that it's growing like wild but still looks so fragile and delicate.

A view down the bed...

Yes, I need an edger.

And this is my favorite place to hang as the sun goes down...

Not bad for $16.99 chairs from Home Depot.

Still lots of cleanup and seeding and planting to do, but look—no stumps! Last weekend we rented a stump grinder and removed all the stumps (all 21 of them!!) from the right side of the yard. I planted a big classic lilac in the back corner to celebrate. Now I cannot wait for that to fill in, and for spring scents, and next summer's yard to be leaps and bounds better than this one.

Your garden is beautiful! I remember seeing images from last summer and see how everything you did has paid off. Nice job!

It's looking great! Getting a yard into shape is such hard work and you're really on your way. Your shade garden looks wonderful with all the mature hosta! Any astilbe in there? - those are my favorite shade plants.

No astilbe, but I do have some monkshood back there for height.

That sweet pea is really pretty - enjoy those new blooms. What do you think of those ferns next to your sweet pea? We have them and they are relentless! I don't hate them, I just didn't want them in the area of our yard where they were growing - but they keep coming back!

Oh, Holly, I love the ferns. I don't know why! Something about the texture, I guess. I would love to have even more!

Awesome, Casey!!! It looks so lush and green and fresh. Holy cow, 21 stumps?! That sounds like a lot of work, congrats on getting it done. I'm so bad at outside stuff, I wish I knew more about landscaping.

Casey, it looks FABULOUS. ALl your hard work is paying off. Wish I lived closer so I could hang out with you on a regular basis. I think you need to have an al fresco cocktail party... hint, hint. :)
