at last, a warm, inviting guest room

I'm so excited to show you all my favorite space I've done so far. As I saw it all come together, the colors, the textures, each element finally making its way into the room (except for the wall sconces, still to come) I was beyond thrilled. Okay, so the pictures are not so fantastic. Sorry about the strong afternoon light and the shadows. But the client is so happy, it was all done within a tight budget, and it could not be a more peaceful, warm, comfortable space to welcome a weekend guest or two. I want to stay here!

And just for kicks, here are some befores. As you can see, the room was cold and cluttered, functioning mostly as a storage space.

What we did: painted antique beds black, painted walls cream, Ikea curtains, bamboo shades, West Elm bedding, Ikea cabinet, bench instead of nightstand, client's own rug, art, matching antiqued mirrors. It all came together into a restful, inviting retreat. Actually, I really wish this room were in my home. Here's a last look...

This is lovely...the reds make it so cozy. I have the same cabinet in yellow.

Is the red cabinet with the glass doors from Ikea? I think it is perfect for the room. I would love that for my house but can't find it on the Ikea site? Do you know the name?

Hi Laurie, yes it's from Ikea. It's the Hemnes Linen Cabinet. Good luck!

This is so spectacular! I love everything you chose, and can't believe some of the great finds, given the limited budget. Nice job Casey!

Casey - thank you ! Found the cabinet online from Ikea, but why oh why only red. Ikea can you hear me begging you to offer that cabinet in different colors?!?

Laurie, I know! My mother desperately wants that cabinet too, but in white, black, or the gray-brown that's offered on other Hemnes pieces. Why, Ikea, can't you offer this too in the whole collection of colors?! SILLY Ikea.

This room is AWESOME! I love how you've mixed different styles for an eclectic feel--like the antique mirrors and the traditional rug with the more modern fabrics and bright pops of red. It looks so beautiful...I seriously cannot believe you did this on a budget!

Gasp! I already told you you were my hero, right? Now you are like design goddess!!! It's beautiful, Casey! So proud of you...congratulations on a job well done. Nothing's better than happy clients, except maybe happy clients and designing a room for someone else that you want in your own home;) My two favorite things are the antique mirrors (where did you find them?) and the huge hanging botanical print poster. Combining these kinds of things with stuff from Ikea and West Elm makes for such a unique and warm space. You rock!!!

Love this room!! I am desperately looking for a similar botanical print. Where did you find this one? Was it something from owners collection?

Good South said...

So pretty and cozy! I am actually curious about the botanical print as well??? would love one similar!
Also, I know at one point Ikea did offer that cabinet in yellow, so not sure why they no longer carry it???

Thanks!
Elizabeth

Thanks for all your comments, ladies! I have had so many compliments on the oversized coral canvas--I got it from Pottery Barn and it's no longer available. I imagine any botantical you like, though, could be blown up to a larger size and mounted on canvas. Also, I recommend trying Natural Curiousities for really interesting, original corals and botanical art. Good luck!

would you be willing to share what color you used on the walls? in the first few pictures it seems to have a green tone to it...and then in the 3rd picture down it looks more like a silvery gray...THANKS!

casey at loft and cottage said...

Hi Lauren, yes, the pictures are not great so the wall color is hard to distinguish! I used the same color in my living room--it's a version of Ralph Lauren's Architectural Cream, but I think I reduced it to 75%. Anyway, I posted the formula here. Hope this helps! http://loftandcottage.blogspot.com/2011/03/living-room-painting-progress.html

Love this room! Do you happen to know the West Elm bedding names? I looked on their site but don't see anything similar. Thanks!
